Glad you like Yella!!!

This was the first remix we ever did. So many different people, black people, were doing various versions and re-records of "Genius Of Love" that we decided to do one ourselves. We had just come down to Compass Point in Nassau for a Christmas vacation and we went into the studio with the same engineer we had co-produced the first two TTC albums with, Steven Stanley.
Stevie was the main voice of Yella. In fact, "Yella" was his nickname among the Bahamian crowd because of his "high yellow" complexion.

Tina and I quickly wrote most of the lyrics about living in our loft with no heat after business hours. We did a few quick overdubs on a safety copy of the original multitrack. Stevie did the "voicing", and even Robert Palmer got into the act with the line that Tina wrote about "why don't you move into the Louvre, it's cozy there and you could prove Monet was hot, Picasso was not."

Yella was released on Island's budget label Antilles. It actually sold pretty well (in the 'hood).

Cheers,

Chris
